But don't sweat it! After all, we call it Sunday SCHOOL for a reason. We want a good education of all things Bible, and so we must go slowly and be as thorough as we can be, while at the same time trying to stay fresh and lively and not boring.
If you want to learn, you have to be here, so please be faithful this year to your Sunday School class. But please don't come with the attitude that says "I have school all week long, I don't want to come to church for more school!" There is no education that is more important than a Biblical education. The Bible deals with eternal matters that will rarely, if ever, be mentioned at your school.
Some of the most frequently asked questions I have had as a youth minister were in regards to the mysterious spiritual beings that we have heard many stories about. I have addressed demons and demon possession/oppression in previous series, and we have discussed more recently the heavenly place from which angels ascend and descend. Now, before dealing with a very confusing passage regarding an angel of the Lord in Exodus, we are going to consider several mysterious passages of scripture regarding angels. Countless interpretations of these scriptures have given us our common cultural views of angels. But how do these interpretations hold up to the rest of scripture? We will discuss the following passages and more:
- The Angel God sent to lead the Israelites (Exodus 23)
- The angels of the little ones (Matthew 18)
- The "angels unawares" (Hebrews 13)
- The angels of the churches (Revelation 2 and 3)
